The Origin Story of Shaneland Arts
Shaneland Arts came to life because of an orange bunny. An orange bunny that Shane saw in a store and knew he had to have. Not a real-life orange bunny. But a cute, fuzzy, palm-of-your-hand sized bunny. He walked away without buying it, his partner, Mike, asking: “Why would you want that?” To which, Shane continued to respond, “Why wouldn’t I want it?”
And with this continued back and forth, the bunny became so much more. It represented the push and pull of life, right brain and left brain, yin and yang, all of it. So Shane bought the bunny, and it became his muse…a physical reminder that opposite or seemingly contrary forces are actually complementary, interconnected and interdependent.
Everything about the bunny—the orange-ness of it, its playfulness and simplicity, inspired Shane. He continued about his life, making his way through various positions as Art Director and VP of Creative in the corporate world, reminding his team of graphic designers, store designers and motion graphics specialists that the purpose of everything is to create something beautiful.
And eventually the universe signaled a new chapter, the one that began in April 2018: Shaneland Arts. It started with some branding: a name, a logo and homage to the bunny: the color orange (of course). Shane rallied some like-minded artists who wanted to be part of the cause. Then came the pursuit of creativity coaching certification, a physical space, murals and merchandise. Shaneland Arts was real.
And now, as they say, we have arrived. And there’s still so much left to do. The story of Shaneland Arts remains unfinished. Because now this place needs you—local Phoenicians, online admirers from near and far, artists and creatives, budding and established, members of the LBGTQ community and allies. We need YOUR energy to truly become the collective we’ve dreamed of through all of this.
